Call me old fashioned, but I much prefer speaking to person by phone than messenger. Generally this gives me a better idea of what type of service you are looking for along with the type of lifestyle you and your dog lead. This helps me offer the right service for you and more importantly your dog. Before we speak, Below are some of the most frequent questions I get asked by those looking for a new groomer.
🔍 Frequently Asked Questions

---|---|---|
1 | How often should my dog be groomed? | At Dog & Bone Grooming, I recommend most dogs are groomed every 6 weeks, depending on breed, coat type and lifestyle. Long or double coats, or dogs that spend lots of time outdoors, often need more frequent visits. I tailor a grooming schedule for each dog to maintain coat health and comfort. |
2 | How much does grooming cost? | The cost at Dog & Bone Grooming depends on several factors: breed, size, coat condition (matted or clean), temperament, and the level of grooming you want (wash & tidy, full groom, specific styles). I provide transparent pricing, with an estimate before the groom. Each Dog is an individual so it may be different for two dogs of the same breed depending on their needs |
3 | What does a typical dog grooming service include? | At Dog & Bone Grooming, a full grooming service includes a gentle wash with high-quality products, drying (hand / blow dry), brushing out mats, trimming or clipping to breed/style, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and finishing touches. For dogs with special needs , I adapt the service to be calm and stress-free. |
4 | When should a puppy have their first groom? | Puppies are welcome at Dog & Bone Grooming after they have had their vaccinations and are comfortable enough to meet new environments. The first grooming helps them get used to grooming sounds and smells. I introduce them gently so future appointments are far less stressful. |
5 | What do I need to bring to my dog’s first grooming appointment? | For your first visit to Dog & Bone Grooming, please bring any relevant health or behaviour information (e.g. skin sensitivities, past grooming issues), usual collar & lead, and optionally your dog’s favourite toy or treat. I work one-to-one, so knowing your dog’s background helps me make them feel comfortable. A first appointment is liable to take a little longer to allow your dog to get used to me and the new environment. |
6 | Do you groom mixed or unusual-breed dogs? | Yes — at Dog & Bone Grooming, I work with both traditional breeds and mixed breeds. I assess coat type and condition individually and tailor the grooming package accordingly. No breed is “too tricky” when given the right care and time. |
7 | What if my dog is anxious or fearful of grooming? | I specialise in one-to-one grooming in a calm rural salon, which helps reduce stress greatly. I take time to acclimatise anxious dogs, use gentle handling, natural products, and allow breaks if needed. My goal is a positive experience, not just a quick groom. |
8 | Can I see photos of your previous work / before & after? | Absolutely. On the Dog & Bone Grooming facebook and instagram pages., I feature many before & after photos of dogs I’ve groomed. These help you see quality, styling, and what to expect. I’m also happy to share styles suited to your dog. |
9 | How long will the grooming take? | Typical sessions at Dog & Bone Grooming can vary — a wash & tidy might take 1-2 hours, while a full groom on a long-haired or heavily matted dog could take more time. Because I work one dog at a time, quality and care are never rushed. I’ll give you a time estimate when you book. |
10 | Do you use cages or crates / drying cages? | No — I believe in stress-free grooming. Dog & Bone Grooming does not use crates or drying cages. dogs stay one-on-one with gentle handling, and drying is done carefully with hand / blow drying in a calm space. |
11 | Are you Qualified ? | Yes. I started Dog Grooming nearly 20 years ago, and was surprised at the lack of regulation within the industry at that time. As well as attending Seminars and workshops, I studied and obtained my level 3 Diploma in Dog grooming and Salon Management. I also have a BSc(Hons) in Animal Behaviour and Welfare.
I hold a PGCE teaching qualification and am an IPET approved training centre. Over the last four years I have taught a number of other groomers and helped them set up their own business. I have also helped others obtain their Level 3 Award in Teaching. As I am getting older I have now returned to what I Love best and concentrate on my Dog Grooming. |
